DELMA ISLAND DESALINATION PLANT, WATER TANKS

GRP was the original specified and applied material on the two large water storage tanks. Due to varying climatic conditions and thermal variations on the substrate; the coating cracked under pressure within 3 months of operations and the entire water supply had to be halted till the consultant came up with an appropriate solution. The consultant was asked by the water authorities to look for a specialized material that had four very important characteristics:

1.WRAS Potable water approval up to 85°C

2.Elongation

3.Crack bridging

4.Fast curing

DELTAShield HP 500 PW displays all the above characteristics. The concrete had to be shot blasted to rid of all the old coating system, apply DELTAPrime 2K SD Primer and finally apply 2 mm on the entire system of DELTAShield HP 500 PW. With fast curing times, the client was instructed to start pumping water within 24 hours of the final coating application.
