Dubai Municipality`s new mega sewerage treatment plant was built in the outskirts of Jebel Ali to cater to the expansion of the rapidly growing city and in line with the upcoming EXPO 2020.
Initially GRP @ 6 mm thickness was specified as the recommended liner for all concrete areas directly in contact with waste water in the Primary Sedimentation Tanks (processed water) to the Digesters (raw sewage) and all concrete channels in between the two areas.
Upon careful analysis of climatic conditions and adverse effects on concrete with day temperatures of +45°C to nights of +10°C it was understood that the lower elongations and crack bridging abilities of GRP would not be suited for the application in such a climate.
The Client explored the use of an elastomeric coatings to handle substrate movement, impact, abrasion and high chemical resistance to H²S (Hydrogen Sulfide) gas present in waste water.
After numerous mock ups in various locations and successful pull off tests the project was awarded to Delta Coatings.
- - Primary Sedimentation Tanks – 40,000 Sqm
- - Digesters – 20,000 Sqm
- - Driveways for trucks – 4,000 Sqm
- - Tunnels & Channels – 11,000 Sqm
Two Graco XP 70 airless spray rigs were used for applying DeltaPrime 2K SF Primer. Four Graco EXP2 reactors were used to spray DELTAShield HP 400. The project was completed in 12 months.
